Outpost Magazine

Project Goal
Taking an online magazine article and editing it into an editorial.
Deliverables: One cover and four pages of text.
Research
The magazine chosen is Outpost Magazine with an article about lionfish hunting in Barbados.
When researching, I looked into other informational, sea, and fishing magazines for different editorial designs. Including an example of the printed Outpost magazines.
The article targets thrill-seekers and environmental activists, iconography given to attract the audience included:
-
Lionfish
-
Spears used in hunting
-
Tropical palette
-
Photographs selected from the online article

Process
Here, I implemented the safe and stretch strategy.

Safe
The safe route I focused on designs from other Outpost Magazine issues, making a more structured editorial. The cover uses an image taken by the author of the article.

Stretch
The stretch was the chosen direction. Creating a more dynamic structure and using more of the researched iconography. The cover shows more action and purpose.
